Everyday I go into Arusha town to collect plastic waste bags by myself. I take them to my home, wash and desinfect them thoroughly and hang them to dry. The next day I cut the plastic bag into pieces, and they’re ready to be used as stuffing.
The outside of the puppets consists of Kitenge cloth. This is also used to make Kanga's, traditional clothes for African women. This is a very strong type of cloth. Together with my family I cut the shapes out of different types of Kitenge, and sew them together, with the plastic waste bag stuffing inside. All of this is done by hand.
Since the project started I made about a 1000 puppet toys.
